President: Jody Chu
Jody Chu is
new to MSFTA. She loves and lives to trail
ride. She has been in Co since 2005.
She has been around horses since she was born
except for a few short years in her childhood
and then a short absence again while serving in
the USAF. Jody was introduced to gaited horses
as a teenager and had her first gaited horse at
19. The gelding was a si ngle-footing grade
horse. She now has a Tennessee walking horse
gelding (Magic) that she has had since he was 18 mos old. He was too young to ride so she did
lots of trick training using the clicker style
of training. Some of Magic’s tricks include
bowing, fetching, saluting, lying down and
sitting.
Jody is also
studying to become a barefoot trimmer. She has
been trimming her horse for years now and is
starting to take it to the professional level.
She looks
forward to meeting more members and blazing the
trails together. “Let’s get out and ride!” |

Fox Trotters have been a part of my life for
over 15 years. Growing up
in Wyoming, horses were always a way life.
Trail riding the mountains of Colorado and being
with fellow equine enthusiasts is what I love to
do! I have three Fox Trotters, which
keeps me very busy!
MSFTA is a great organization with many fine
people. Over the years I
have worked on many different committees in
many different capacities. I have
enjoyed every aspect of being involved with the
organization. |

Secretary:
Susan Peters
"My name is
Susan Peters and like many "horse fans", I, too
caught the bug as a very young girl. Lots of
begging finally earned me a horse at 13 - a Saddlebred. Since then I have owned many
different breeds of horses and loved them all. A
FoxTrotter I bought in the mid 90's was my
introduction to the Fox Trotter Club, and I have
been a member ever since. My passion is trail
riding - day rides, camp rides, resort rides,
competitive trail rides, and perhaps some
endurance rides this summer. I currently own
three horses.
The greatest value to me from this
club has been the really good people I have met
through the club and the neat places I have been
able to ride. This is my second tour of duty on
the board, and my objective is to give back to
an organization that has given me so much. Hope
to see you on the trail. "

Board Position #2: Dee
Overholt
2010 is
my 2nd year as a member of the MSFTA Board. Like most horse
people bitten with the "horse bug" I was about
10 when I started begging and pleading for a
horse. My folks found a grade gelding for me. He
remained my friend and instructor for many a
year. Since then I have owned many horses,
mostly paints and quarter horses. I came late to
a Fox Trotter, as age and disintegrating body
parts demanded a smoother ride.
I have
done a variety of disciplines including showing,
barrel racing, flat track racing, breeding and
trail riding. Trail riding is my passion. I
competed in long distance competitive trail
riding for years as a member of NATRC. My most
recent accomplishment is completing the entire
Colorado Trail. I currently own 2 horses, only
one being a Fox Trotter
This is
my first year as a member of the board. I am
looking forward to meeting good people with like
interests.

Board Position #3: Linda
Irwin

I
have been a member of the fox trotter club for
around 4 or 5 years. However, I didn’t always
have a fox trotter. I started out with a
quarter horse who is now retired, and then a
mustang that we called a rock trotter because of
her rough gait. Don’t get me wrong I love my
old quarter horse and the mustang but once I
rode a gaited horse that was it. I never wanted
to ride anything else.
Then I was given this horse to try out for the
weekend and I fell in love with her. Her name
is Cricket and a fox trotter. We were a perfect
match and together we have covered lots of
ground. We are inseparable and I can always
count on a smooth and fun ride with Cricket.
Furthermore, when my husband rode cricket he had
to have a fox trotter also. That’s when we
bought Rain. I guess you could say we are a fox
trotter family.
I love this breed and I am committed to this
club in promoting the fox totter horse. There
is something magical that happens when a group
of people get together with a common interest.
The individual learns a lot and the group excels
in their goals. I have always had a blast with
are day rides, camping trips, horse clinics and
horse shows.
I am counting on this year to be more of the
same and even better.

Board Position West Slope: Christy Burch

|
My name is Christy Burch, and I’m delighted to
be the Western Slope board member for the MSFTA.
I’ve been a member of this great group for many
years and have enjoyed friends, horses and
incredible camping/trail riding adventures
during that time. I am fortunate to live in
beautiful Crawford, Colorado, with views of the
West Elk Mountains and Needle Rock. My Fox
Trotter, Summer Cash, has literally grown up on
many of these trails all over Western
Colorado. Some of our favorite "backyard" rides
include Escalante Canyon, Flat Tops and Lizard
Head Wilderness areas; and of course Kebler
Pass. So, if you’re on the Western Slope, give
us a call, because we live to ride and ride to
live!! My phone number is 970.921.3650.

Board Position New Mexico:
Alicia Morrison
Alicia’s
love of gaited horses started with her
grandfather, a horseman from the beautiful
rolling hills of west Tennessee. In 1995
Alicia thought she might never realize her dream
of breeding, raising and training gaited horses,
as the big "C" crossed her path.
She acted
on another life dream after the cancer. That
goal was to breed, raise, and train Missouri Fox
Trotters. Along with her husband, Art,
they own Star Gait Ranch which is located in
Moriarty, New Mexico and currently home to a
herd of around 17 horses.
Her
favorite mare for general riding and mounted
shooting is Star—her first horse post-cancer.
Art’s preferred mount is Gunner, a Fox Trotter
gelding. "With a herd like ours there are lots
of others to ride as well but those two are our
personal mounts."
She can be reached at
505-328-5883. Email is
aliciamorrison@hughes.net.
Moriarty is east of Albuquerque. The web sight

Trail Ride Committee:
(& Membership & Librarian): Susan Herzberg

"Didn't every girl grow up
dreaming of horses? I remember that we had
just gotten a lovely, calm, Palomino mare to
take care of for a short while. I woke my
sisters up before the crack of dawn the next
morning, got
them dressed warmly, and went down
to see our new horse (more like a pardner).
I will never forget the thrill of being on her
back, hair blowing in the breeze as we rode
bareback all over the hard with our little legs
sticking straight out, trying to hang on.
To say the least, mom was furious when she found
out we weren't in our beds. Growing up on
the beaches of California, there was not much
opportunity for me to get involved in horses.
The dream was always in the back of my mind.
I moved to Colorado
in 1997.
I bought by first Fox Trotting
mare Reba, bred
her a few years after that to wonderful
Charlie horse (Oldendorf) and now have a
spunky 7 year old. He is my main riding
horse now, although Reba and I still take a
cruise periodically. Even at 25, she is
still a handful. I have thoroughly enjoyed being
involved as a member of MSFTA these last few
years, and getting to know so many of our
members."
