Pawnee Buttes Ride  - April 29th

Pawnee Buttes National Grasslands

A wonderfully dramatic spring ride. A small group braved the windy conditions and explored the historic Pawnee grounds.  The scenery was truly interesting.

We strategically tucked into the deep earthen cut outs that form a system of curved sandy trails.  From these canyons, our horses literally popped up on the plains and we took in the views that take you back in time.

This area is known for flowers and birds.  We spotted pretty pink blooms and a big swooping owl.  At one point, we rode up a well-marked trail and discovered a rocky look out that stretched wide and deep. The variety of color in the pre-historic rock is awesome.  All in all our couple hour ride was a successful and delightful one.  What a place for a days ride!  Mae Mayes, Michele Fishman and Teresa Kangas all agree they’d do it again – hopefully on a much less windy day.
