Back Country Horse Pack Clinic  ---   April 2, 2006

Ever wondered if your horse would make a competent pack animal? The Front Range Back County Horsemen and MSFTA teamed up to sponsor this clinic.  It was well attended with 15 participants and  a dozen or so spectators.

With the help of Glenn Ryan, Lead Packer for the Forest Service R-2 Specialty Pack string, as well as members of the FRBCH, this clinic reviewed  many of the things horsemen need to know about the lost art of packing. Things like the differences between the two types of pack saddles and, some of the various ways to pack a load like manties, panniers, bear boxes, and the tying of several hitches to carry the loads we build.

Participants received one on one assistance with fitting a pack saddle to the horse.  Yes, there were a few wild moments....... you just never know when a horse may not like carrying "dead" weight.

This was a great hands on clinic and a way for the MSFTA to support the Back Country Horsemen!
